Walking in Central Park

Central Park remains one of the world’s most beautiful urban refuges. Designed and developed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux between 1857 and 1876, the 778-acre park wasn’t a natural rectangular woodland set aside as the city grew up around it. All of the trees and foliage were brought into the space and landscaped to delight the eye at every turn. [Photos above and below (c) Marc Myers]
