Lennie Best Quintet, 1984

A superb vibraphonist who was familiar to club-goers in the U.K. but virtually unknown in the U.S. was Lennie Best. Strangely, he didn’t record as a leader and barely found his way onto records as sideman, preferring instead to play live. In this rare televised gig that was part of England’s Bracknell Jazz Festival in 1984, the Lennie Best Quintet was captured live by the BBC. Their club set was edited down to a half hour. Best died in 2002.
